GSACEP Awards - Call for Nominations
Calling all Government Services members! The nomination inbox is now open for our annual Fellowship in Leadership Development, Annual Awards and Grants, which will be announced at the Government Services Symposium in April!
As always, our goal is to showcase the talent and hard work of our membership. To nominate yourself or a colleague, please find the required forms here on the GSACEP website and direct any questions to michelebyers@gsacep.org. Nominations are due by 31 January, 2024. COL (Dr.) Dave Berry Fellowship in Leader Development: The GSACEP COL (Dr.) Dave Barry Fellowship in Leadership Development is designed to develop and prepare future military and federal emergency medicine leaders. The fellowship combines elements of coaching, with skills in organization, education, advocacy, and involvement. The fellowship serves to provide both an orientation to organized medicine and leadership development to ensure our future military and federal emergency medicine leaders succeed in the combined military and civilian organized medicine setting. Bernadette Carr Legacy Scholarship: The Bernadette Carr Legacy Scholarship recognizes the selfless service, camaraderie, respect and friendship of GSACEP’s longest serving executive director. Her dedication, integrity and loyalty to the chapter exemplify the military values our members strive to attain. During her tenure, Bernie was the champion of the Government Services Symposium (formerly called Joint Services Symposium), working tirelessly behind the scenes to make each conference an unparalleled success for attendees from all perspectives: professional, social, educational and research/academic. Recipients of the legacy scholarship receive complimentary registration to the Government Services Symposium and an honorarium to include hotel expenses and $500 towards travel. Recipients are expected to attend the GSACEP Board of Directors Meeting during GSS and meaningfully participate.
Excellence in Emergency Medicine Award: This is the highest award offered by GSACEP, intended to recognize a leader with a long-standing record of significant contributions to government service, VA and/or military emergency medicine, resulting in noteworthy impact on the profession. Nominees must be active GSACEP members with a proven track record of outstanding work/activities contributing to military emergency medicine.
Excellence in Teaching Awards: This is the highest educational award offered by GSACEP, intended to recognize a leader with a long-standing record of significant educational contributions to government service, VA and/or military emergency medicine, resulting in noteworthy impact on the profession. Nominees must be active GSACEP members with obvious dedication to teaching. Applications are encouraged to include letters of support from both learners and colleagues. These awards include BOTH junior and senior faculty!
Medical Director Leadership Award: The nominee must demonstrate collaborative relationships with nursing and ancillary departments to implement and improve operational and clinical standards based on evidence-based practice. The nominee will create and sustain a high degree of patient satisfaction with emergency care delivery and will implement creative and innovative strategies to address emergency department throughput.
Rising Star Award: The GSACEP Rising Star Award is intended to honor the junior Emergency Medicine staff that most exemplifies excellence and dedication to service. Similar in intent to sports-based “rising star” awards, the GSACEP Rising Star Award is given annually to a standout young EM physician who displays exceptional service to the Government Services Section and/or outstanding leadership in the profession.
Veterans Advocate Award: Any member of the Government Services Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (GSACEP) may nominate himself/herself or another member for this award. The leadership team of any hospital or military treatment facility may nominate a GSACEP member for this award. This award recognizes a GSACEP member that made significant contributions to the health, welfare and/or safety of our nation’s veterans.
Resident Leadership & Advocacy Grant: The Government Services Chapter ACEP (GSACEP) offers scholarships for residents to attend the ACEP Leadership and Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. Residents will be able to meet with legislators from the state in which they currently reside, meet with GSACEP and ACEP leadership, and network with fellow residents and attending physicians. Traditionally, residents are treated to a dinner with GSACEP Leaders and Members following the Opening Reception. GSACEP will cover airfare, hotel and per diem for the length of the conference.
Scientific Assembly Grant: The GSACEP Scientific Assembly Grant is intended to support GSACEP members in their academic pursuits, to encourage increased involvement in the Government Services Chapter and to cultivate future EM leaders. Resident recipients receive free conference registration to ACEP Scientific Assembly. Faculty recipients receive discounted registration to ACEP Scientific Assembly. Recipients are required to attend the GSACEP Board of Directors Meeting during the conference to receive recognition and foster familiarity with current EM issues important to the Government Services members.
